Rita Jones Joins 3Veni

Soca artiste Rita Jones will perform with the band 3Veni for the remainder of the 2012 Carnival season. Jones was released from the Roy Cape All Stars frontline last week, sparking off speculation and rumours over why she was no longer with the band.
Cape told the Express Jones was not fired, but told it was time for her to move on. Responding to reports that Jones was told by him that the weight she put on in recent times was an issue, Cape said that was only part of the reason she was asked to leave.
"I really don't want to get into all the reasons because Rita could be my child and I would not want to say anything that could hurt her. The weight issue is just part of it. We went through this with Rita before and she was welcomed back to the band, but there were things that needed to be dealt with that were not. In any business, one has to take action if things are not working out. The people who pay their money must be happy when we perform," Cape said.
Cape said the band will, in the coming days, be holding auditions for women to perform for the remainder of the season. He said the band is looking for a woman with talent and personality. He said they want someone with raw talent who can be groomed into an artiste who would then be able to stand on her own anywhere.
Manager of 3Veni Varendra Persad confirmed Jones will be performing with the band for Carnival, then they will explore what happens beyond that. He said Jones has worked with 3Veni in the past and always did an excellent job and got along very well with the musicians and his son, KI, who is the lead vocalist.
"Rita is an excellent performer and great singer. We would not have continued working with her if she wasn't. We have never had any problems with Rita. She is very pleasant and gets along very well with the band members. Anywhere we see each other, she is always very friendly and nice," Persad said.
Attempts were made to contact Jones, even through Persad, but she did not respond.
