Known as Kwesi Hopkinson he started his career as a young teenager experimenting with his father’s records and turntables. Influenced by Chinese Laundry, Stone Love, Killaman Jaro and Dr Hyde mix tapes he was inspired to become one of the biggest Dj sound systems in the country to date.

In the early 90s he formed his first group with childhood friend Kevin Mascal called M.O.C( masters of creativity) becoming the dj of rapper duo. With the dreams of making it on radio and having mass appeal and respect as a sound system to fear he decided to change the group’s name to Radioactive.

Radioactive sound system became one of thee pioneered to the school boys Dj craze that took over the late 90s and 200s. Hypa and Radioactive was instrumental in the career of fellow Dj/host Dj Dane and soca singer super jigga TC. Hypa also creating many iconic Dj events such as Fully Loaded and Children of the 80s.
Hypa got his radio break in the late 90s with Radioactive as a featured sound system on 96.1 after 7 years at WEFM he left and joined Citadel in 2005 becoming an instrumental and integral part of the setting up of RED 96.7 acting in the roll of programme director. He was later released from that position and was made a consultant of the V.P. Of Programming.

In 2007 he created and founded the very popular magazines Scorch and www.thescorch.com. A social lifestyle magazine and media network targeted at the young hip and trendsetting culture in Trinidad which he runs to date.

Hypa has hands in other business ventures and has even done some acting in two local TV soap opera series West Wood Park where he played the character “tic toc” and more recently The Reef as a leading character name “Abi-Shek Butcher”.

To date hypa has some what re-invented his self into a radio host than the sound system selector he was known for in his early career with Radioactive, hosting one of the most popular afternoon drive time programs on air now.
