Hollywood Sachy is a DJ, a radio personality, a TV personality and an up and coming vocal artiste, all in one person. Sachy, as some may call him, whose real name is Jason Valentine, was born on the 14th of September, 1984 in Port-Of-Spain. Over the years, Sachy has spent his time fine-tuning his ear for the music winning formula; in the only way he knows how, to decipher a “big-tune from rubbish”.
Now juggling a combination of solo careers, Sachy has always had a fond interest in the entertainment and fashion industry. However, his biggest hobby is, of course, music. Before Sachy’s talent exploded, his interest in music started at the tender age of fifteen, after meeting his best friend Curly, the only man who owned every single piece of music equipment in the neighborhood. Curly was also the man responsible for the infamous name “Hollywood Sachy”, but we’ll get to that later on. On the weekends at Curly’s house, the two would mess around with the equipment and the turntables, out of pure fun and amusement. Over time the weekend lime that first started off with just a few close friends grew into a massive crowd and became the ultimate spot on the weekend. Of course, Sachy was always the one to assume the role of “Mic man”, despite not having any formal experience and not having a clue what he was doing. It was sonly after a good friend of his, when hearing and recognizing his talent, suggested that he listen to some Stone Love cassettes to get a better understanding of how this “Mic man” thing is supposed to be done. After acting on his good friend’s wise advice and schooling himself, Sachy’s Mic technique gradually improved and with that, the crowd at Curly’s house continued to grow even bigger. With all this attention, his friends were always trying to encourage and convince him and Curly to start their sound system and it was out of this that the mad sound Diamond Crown was born.
Diamond Crown became a very popular sound, and one of the most requested for school bazaars, May fairs and pool parties. The sound’s growth in popularity captured the attention of a number of well-established runners in the industry, one in particular, radio personality Dawg-E-Slaughter, owner and founder of the Xcaliber Sound System. Soon after this, Sachy officially launched his career by joining the Xcaliber sound system and toured across the Caribbean, Europe, US, Canada and Japan, to name a few. Touring with this big sound also afforded him the opportunity to perform with huge international artists such as Usher, Ludacris and Nelly. By the time, using the name “Hollywood Sachy”, Jason Valentine quickly rose to become one of the really big names in the local and international club scene.
It was thereby obvious that he also used this successful name when he simultaneously launched his radio and TV careers. Sachy worked at a popular local urban radio station for a few years, while juggling the role of entertainment host at WinTV and Synergy TV and at the same time pursuing a career in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. In 2005, He joined the RED FM family and still continues to be one of the most requested in both the local and international social arenas.
Ok, so we didn’t forget. Let’s get back to the ever so popular question of the origination of the infamous name “Hollywood Sachy”. The name came about after he bought a US $300.00 pair of cream of the crop Versace jeans that he would wear almost every time he went out. Sachy wore those jeans so much that his friend Curly started calling him “Versace”. Soon after that, perhaps because he thought that name was too long, Curly re-branded him “Sachy”. The sub-title “Hollywood” was added later and was synonymous to his chic celebrity dress style. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the name "Hollywood Sachy" came about!
